A solstice marks the longest or shortest day of the year, while an equinox symbolises the day when there is balance between daylight and darkness. This shows the end of one season and the beginning of another. In the northern hemisphere, Easter falls on the spring equinox, when winter is coming to an end and nature is experiencing a rebirth and renewal. This is naturally a cause for festivities and celebrations, as the darkness comes to an end and plants and leaves start to regrow after the cold winter.<br/><br/>HOW EASTER WAS ADOPTED INTO CHRISTIANITY<br/>Around mid-300AD, Christianity was increasing in popularity in Rome, then the centre of the world. In 312, the Emperor Constantine converted to Christianity and put an end to the ongoing persecution of Christians. However, he knew that just because he had converted, it didn’t mean that pagans would stop following their rituals and traditions. So he slowly started to adopt existing pagan rituals into Christian festivities. In 325 AD, the church council – known as the Council of Nicaea – first decided that Easter’s celebration should fall on the Sunday after the first full moon of the spring equinox. And thus Easter Sunday was born, and symbols associated with nature’s rebirth and renewal came to be associated with the rebirth or resurrection of Christ.")

_narberth-rfc-targeting-one-more-win-to-clinch-championship.webp "NARBERTH took on fourth placed Bonymaen in front of a large crowd at the Lewis Lloyd Ground and whilst it wasn’t one of their better performances of the season they came away with the required bonus point win to keep them at the top of the Championship (West) Division.<br/>After a scrappy first 10 minutes, Narberth eventually got some points on the board when fly half Jonathan Rogers kicked a penalty.<br/>The Otters continued to put the visitors under pressure but a solid and determined defence kept them out.<br/>Eventually, after hooker Kyle Hamer had come close to scoring but was held up over the line, a scrum five yards out saw scrum half Lewys Gibby stride over the line for a try converted by Rogers (10- 0).<br/>Then right on half time a quickly taken lineout throw saw Gibby again put into space and he stepped inside the final defender to score his second try under the posts again converted by Rogers.<br/>Ten minutes after the break, another dancing run downfield by Gibby saw captain Tom Powell receive the final pass and crash over for a try converted by Rogers to extend the lead to 24 – 0.<br/>An excellent angled run by centre Aled Rees saw him tackled just short of the line but Otters No.8 Roy Osborn was on hand to take the pass and score the bonus point try again converted by Rogers (31 – 0).<br/>The visitors, however, refused to give up and from a lineout five metres out their No.6 brushed off some would be tacklers and crashed over to score their first try.<br/>Within minutes Bonymaen had scored again when an overlap in front of the grandstand saw the same Bonymaen flanker dive over for an excellent try in the bottom corner.<br/>The visitors seemed to be on the rampage and a further unconverted try in the corner by their right wing reduced the arrears to 31 – 15.<br/>However, despite some enterprising play by both teams in the last five minutes there was no further score with Narberth getting the result which they needed.<br/>The Otters are at home again next week for the final league fixture of the season and if they get a win against Maesteg Quins they will be the winners of the Championship (West) Division.<br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/>")

_former-carmarthenshire-pembrokeshire-and-cardigan-county-asylum-to-be-turned-into-health-park-for-all.webp "A former Victorian building which began life as the Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire and Cardigan County Asylum is to be converted into a health park for all.<br/>The new owners of the Parc Dewi Sant site in Carmarthen have announced plans to convert the former Victorian asylum into a medical park with health and wellbeing benefits for the whole community. <br/>Parc Dewi Sant Limited has acquired almost all of the 38-acre site from Carmarthen County Council after the council put the location up for sale. <br/>A number of NHS services currently operate on the site, and there is also a Swansea University facility teaching student nurses. All existing organisations on the site will retain their tenancy rights. <br/>Parc Dewi Sant Limited wants to develop the medical provision on the site while protecting the 22 buildings, many of which are listed. They include an ornate Victorian chapel, and a theatre. <br/>The plans include retaining and recruiting both NHS and private health providers, especially in occupational health, and providing serviced clinical offices. <br/>Other facilities will include a gym and a walking track, which will be accessible to local community including dog owners. <br/>A spokesperson for Parc Dewi Sant said: “We want to create a hub for medical, well-being and leisure facilities which is accessible for everyone in the community. By bringing top quality healthcare providers to the area, we aim to support the health and well-being of the local population. <br/>“We are already in discussions with a number of healthcare providers, including a private GP practice, and would welcome discussions with anyone who wants to be part of a modern and vibrant health hub. <br/>“Taking on so many listed buildings is a significant financial commitment. However, we are fully committed to protecting these outstanding buildings and their history, while ensuring they have a meaningful purpose to serve the local community for years to come.”<br/>The new owners of the site have a large portfolio of residential, commercial and office developments throughout Wales, including many period properties.<br/>Their vision for Parc Dewi Sant will transform and bring life and vibrancy back to the iconic estate which began life in 1865 as the Carmarthenshire, Cardigan and Pembrokeshire County Asylum.<br/>The hilltop hospital expanded and had more than 900 beds by the early 1970s. <br/>For more information about the plans visit: http://www.parcdewisant.co.uk/")
